Really sorry about not posting for a month, guys. To make it up for you, I've decided to do.....(drumroll,please) Issue of the week!! Okay, so this week's issue is.... Education.
Loads of political figures say that they know the most about education, and that they will do the job well. But the truth is that they don't have to go through what they've created. So some kid could step up and tell them what the heck it's like: a Hydra. For those of you that do not dabble in Greek mythology, it's a many headed snake that once you cut off a head, two grow back in its place. And unless you had a blowtorch, fighting it was a suicidal mission. Well, the education system is like a thousand-headed Hydra. The settling is frustrating gifted students like Becca and I. (Becca was the first follower. Go Becca!) When I have a letter due, I write four paragraphs of information about the book I read. Someone else could write one measly paragraph and still get the same grade as me. I'm really quite honestly sick of it. I try extremely hard to get a good grade, and then someone walks up, hands in a letter with ONE STINKING PARAGRAPH AND GETS THE SAME GRADE AS ME.
Let's talk about Literature Circle. We're reading A single Shard right now. I already finished the whole darn book. But my teacher and the curriculum are making us read it at a slow pace. I need something to read that is at my level, not at a fourth graders or other classmates. I would like to read something that has larger words than noxious and endeavor. I want something that will make me think and make me wonder.
Because of this my parents want to send me to a school that will challenge me (aka a private school). If my parents are going to send me to private school, they would STILL pay the school taxes to Wissahickon School District to "educate me" when I'm not even there! How ridiculous is that? The whole stinkin' state of Pennsylvania is doing this. And you know what? We have to pay the tuition to the private school after THAT! You doubters might be saying," Where's your solution?" Oh, don't you worry about my solution. I've got one, and the only thing YOU need to worry about is a new comeback. My solution? Vouchers. That's when Wissahickon school district gives BACK THE COST OF EDUCATING A STUDENT TO A PRIVATE SCHOOL THAT IS ACTUALLY EDUCATING THE STUDENT. What a CAPITAL idea! Oh, great. Now you've got me talking like an England junkie.
Here's a quote from the actual Tom Corbett website about his stance on education: "Tom Corbett believes that one of the most important priorities we face is education reform and the quality of education that our children receive in order for them to compete in the global marketplace. He believes that every child in Pennsylvania, regardless of their zip code or economic status should have access to the best education possible. Tom Corbett is a believer in early child hood education and is a supporter of school choice, including: charter schools; private schools; cyber charter schools; Earned Income Tax Credit program and home schooling. He believes that our schools should be staffed by the most effective educator force in the nation and that education funding is met with high standards and accountability in Pennsylvania’s schools."

yeah it is kinda frustrating. And the books are boring, easy, and we listen to a tape. Lilly you know how Mrs.Rehl is all anal and stuff, she's my LA teacher and she makes us read with a recording and it goes at this speed.
ReplyDeleteTree-ear walked up to the house but no one was there .
And she makes us go at that speed. She also says 'read along' and then I read the page 2 times and then I get to move on! And then I do it again, and it's almost impossible to fail 6th grade. When you go to 7th grade you get piled high with homework, and today I had 2 peices of homework. And I had academic and nothing to do! Then I always get stuck with horrible partners because I think the teachers think I'm a 'model student' and will get said person to work. Then if they srew up I get stuck with the bad grade too, it's like if I got 2 time the amount of time, and no partner I might have done better. And in the spelling bee I came in second place for our class one, but Shannon the winner backed out and I had to do it even though Shannon won.
Then in social studies we learn about other cultures and not our own. But in elementary school all we learned about was the constitution, but they never explained it. All they did was tell you the same thing about how and why our founders did it. Then we moved onto other places. But there was only 1 course to take where you actually learned something about the constitution, but not everyone could take it!
Then in science we read the same thing out of a book 3 times, answer questions, check the answers, and if we get lucky a kidish experiment.
And I do everyday math, but I keep getting "You should be in pre-algebra" from everyone in my class. Then I get bored out of my mind because 1 person doesn't get it. Then I do math enrichment work. I keep thinking there should be a remedial pre-algebra because I could get it if they taught me. But I have to stick with the norm, or superiors. No in-between for your math class, which there should be. Then they have a no exclusion policy and they exclude you from pre-algebra. And a bunch of people called in and got in. Sometimes when I get called to Mrs.Rachubinsky's room for math enrichment she's going to put the group I'm with in pre-algebra. Or do something like remedial pre-algebra. Nope, never. Then a kid quit and is in my math class, and I'm like in my head "can I switch places with you?" even though I know I didn't make it. I almost tried to get my friend in pre-algebra to tutor me in it! But then I thought I would feel mooch-y.
The only upside to public schools is you're not around as many snooty 'I'm better than you' kids. And the culture. Plus if you're a band geek like me, the school orchestra (band) is way better.
P.S. On the Demigod Wing Spot I'm writing a story about that, but it's cartoon-y and by cartoon-y I mean Phineas and Ferb-y
ReplyDeletetell me the address and I'll check it out.

Um, private school has the same amount of snooty " I'm soooooooo much better than you" kids, and maybe even less, because most private schools are based on a sound religion, unlike some public school kids. Plus, it's mainly about learning, not the kids.
